To get a girl's number in an airport lounge, approach a woman who is relaxing rather than working, and ask early when her flight leaves. Give her a real reason to want to see you again, then ask with at least ten minutes to spare. In a lounge the boarding call ends every conversation, so the whole skill is fitting a short, complete interaction into the time you have.
Find out her clock first
Every conversation in a lounge runs on a timer you cannot see. Find it in the first minute. "Where are you headed?" and then "When do you board?" are normal questions in a lounge, and they tell you how to pace everything that follows.
With two hours, you can relax, get a drink together and let things build. With 25 minutes, you need to be clear sooner. A man who chats pleasantly for 40 minutes and then hears "That's me, I have to run" has wasted a good conversation.
Open, then make it about her
Use the room to start. The coffee machine, the buffet, the bar and the window seats are the social spots. Ask where she is going, or comment on the delay board or the sad sandwiches.
Then move to her. Why is she going there? Work, a wedding, a trip she planned for months? Ask a follow-up that shows you listened. You want a conversation she is enjoying, not a survey of her travel plans.
Pick someone who has time. A woman on a call or working hard at a desk is the wrong choice, however long her layover is. A woman with a drink by the window, looking around, is the right one.
Give the number a reason
A number asked for too early is rarely real. a dating coach says it directly when he teaches short interactions: "is it really plausible you're going to get a number there? Not that often, and if you do, it's probably going to be really flaky."
His fix is to squeeze the steps together. Show that you like her for a real reason. Get her to agree with something small. Then ask. In a lounge that might sound like this: "Wait, you live in Austin? Okay, then we should get a drink when I'm back there next month." She says yes to something small and real, and the number follows from it.
The reason can be anything true. You both love the same city. She knows a restaurant you want to try. She is the first person in weeks who laughed at your jokes. What matters is that she can see why you want to stay in touch.
How to ask
Be plain about it. "I'm glad I came over. Give me your number, and let's get that drink when you're back." Hand her your phone and let her type.
Then keep talking. a dating coach's point about his airport layover date is that most men leave too early. They get the number and walk off, when the conversation could have gone further. If she has an hour left, the number is one step and not the end. Suggest getting food or a drink together until she boards.
When you are flying to different places
If she lives across the country, the number still has value if either of you travels. Instagram can be the easier ask here, because it feels lighter than a phone number for someone she might not see for months.
Send her a text once she lands. Mention something from your conversation, keep it short, and do not expect a long reply while she is dealing with bags and taxis.
If the answer is no
Some women in a lounge are married, exhausted or simply not interested. If she says no, smile, say it was good talking, and wish her a good flight. You may be on the same plane, so make the ending easy for both of you.
Practicing in the field
Short, timed interactions like this are exactly what a coach can sharpen. The Cold Approach Bootcamp runs in person in Miami and New York, with live coaching on every approach and feedback after every set, across daygame and night game. Every training day is two four-hour blocks in the field, and you leave with a written practice plan. Group is three consecutive days at three students per coach, and Private is 1-on-1 for one, two or three days.
