Pick something specific she wrote or shared, tease it a little, and ask one question she can answer in a line. That is flirting online in a sentence. The rest is keeping each message short, adding a small emoji so the joke is clear, and steering the chat toward meeting her. A guy flirts with a girl the same way on dating apps, in the comments, or in a direct message: lightly, specifically, and without a speech.
What flirting looks like in writing
In person you have your voice, your face, and the moment. In writing you only have words, so the words have to carry the tone. That makes vague flirting fail. "Hey, you are cute" gives her nothing to answer, and she has probably read it a dozen times this week.
Flirting is a small amount of tension and play. It tells her you noticed her and that you find her fun. It is not a compliment delivered with extra confidence. It is a remark with a little edge, like you are enjoying a private joke with her.
Tease something specific
You have more material online than you think. She mentioned a trip, a bad movie, a dog, a hobby, or a strong opinion about pizza. Pick one thing.
My basic format is to notice what is unusual and give it a made-up reason. She says she hates brunch. "A woman who hates brunch is either hiding something or has been hurt by an overpriced waffle. I need the full story." You have noticed, you have given a playful reason, and you have asked for more.
If she gives you something, use it. A short, specific reply beats a clever line that could be sent to anyone.
Use a push and a pull
My most useful flirting tool is the push and pull: say something warm and something cheeky together. "You have the best taste in music I have seen all week. It is a shame about the rest of you." The first half is the pull, the second half is the push, and together they say that you like her and that you will not be easily impressed.
Written text strips out tone, so make sure she knows it is a joke. coach points out that an emoji, a photo, or a meme can add flair and make an unclear joke clearly a joke. A smile or a wink after a tease means you can say something a little bolder than you could with plain words.
Keep every message short
A long message looks needy, and it is tiring to answer. My rule is one or two ideas per text, and the same works online.
A tidy message has three parts: respond to what she said, add a small detail about you, and leave an opening. "That sounds like the most chaotic hiking trip ever. I once packed three sandwiches for a two-hour walk. Did you make it to the top?" She has a story to tell, and she knows something about you.
Do not interview her
When her answers get short, many men respond with more questions, and the chat turns into a form she is filling out. Swap some questions for statements and teasing. A statement gives her something to agree with or argue against, which is easier to answer.
If she gives almost nothing for several messages, send one light line and a suggestion to meet. Her answer to a real plan is worth more than any amount of small talk.
Do not escalate from a cold moment
If she answers flatly, do not respond with something sexual or a sudden request to meet. When a chat is going badly, pushing forward tends to get silence. Pass the small test, laugh at yourself, steer to something good, and only then move on.
Avoid double texting as well. If you send a good message and then a second one five minutes later, you point out that you were fretting about it. One message, then give her time.
You are allowed to stay quiet
You do not have to answer every message immediately, and you do not have to respond to every one. coach describes leaving a silence after a good exchange, so that she wonders for a while. A pause in the evening, with a message in the morning, looks normal and gives her room to invest.
Do not take that too far. If she is warm and engaged, answer within a reasonable time. The point is only that you are a man with other things going on.
Aim at a real meeting
Flirting online is fun, and it is also a way to get somewhere. My point is that you hold the right to move things toward plans. If you only flirt in text, sooner or later you will make a mistake, or you will both get bored.
Mention a plan early and casually, then make it specific a few messages later: "There is a place by the river with a good patio. Thursday evening or Saturday afternoon?" If she keeps the chat going and avoids every plan, believe what she is showing you.
