You cancel in your phone's subscription settings, not inside the dating app. SALT's listing says the subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage it from your Account Settings in the iTunes Store, which is Apple's subscription settings. Do it a day or more before the renewal date, not on it.
The steps on an iPhone
SALT's listing describes the Apple route, so start there.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Pick SALT from the list.
- Choose the option to cancel the subscription, and confirm.
When it works, the subscription screen will show that it will not renew and give an end date. Look at that date. It is the proof that the cancellation took.
If you did not buy it through Apple
The listing describes payment being charged to the iTunes account at purchase, so most men will find the subscription in the Apple list. If you do not see it there, think about where you paid.
A subscription is managed in the store it was bought through, so a purchase made on another platform has to be cancelled in that platform's own subscription settings. Check the receipt email or your card statement if you are not sure which store billed you. The point is to find the place that charges you, because that is the only place that can stop it.
Deleting the app does not cancel it
Many men remove the app from their phone and assume that is the end of it. It is not. Removing an app does not end a subscription you bought through your Apple account, and the renewal date still arrives.
Cancel in the subscription settings first, then delete the app if you want to. Doing it in that order means you will see the confirmation before anything else changes.
What you keep after you cancel
SALT is free to download, match and chat, and the listing says that if you do not buy SALT Premium you can keep using the regular SALT features at no cost. So canceling moves you to the free version, it does not remove your account.
Canceling stops future charges. What you already paid for generally runs until the end of the period, so you can use Premium until then. If you are unsure, the end date on the subscription screen tells you exactly how long that is.
Which plan you were on
SALT Premium is sold in several lengths, from short ones to a year. The length decides how often the renewal comes round and how much you lose by missing the cutoff.
A short plan renews quickly, so the 24 hour rule matters sooner and the charge is smaller. A long plan renews rarely, but when it does the charge is larger and you are locked in for longer. If you chose a long plan and are doubtful, put a reminder in your phone for a few days before the renewal so you can decide with time to spare.
Should you cancel
Before you do, spend two minutes judging whether it worked for you. A paid tier is only worth it if it produces something you can count.
Look at your matches and messages. Did Premium increase the number of conversations that turned into plans? Did you actually use what it offered? a dating coach rates paid features by one test: do they let you choose who you talk to, or do they leave that to the app? If you cannot name a single thing Premium changed, cancel.
If it did help, you can keep it for the stretch where you are actively meeting people and drop it when you stop. Paying for something you are not using is the common regret on every dating app, and it has nothing to do with whether the app is any good.
Cancel without leaving the app behind
The free version is a decent place to test. You can still match and chat without paying, so you lose very little by canceling and can come back to Premium if you find you miss it.
If you do stay on the free version, use it with a plan: a steady number of conversations a week and a goal of getting from a conversation to a coffee. Making plans is what produces dates. Paying more for the app does not do it for you.
A habit worth keeping
Whenever you subscribe to anything on a dating app, set a reminder for the day you want to decide. Subscriptions are designed to renew quietly, and a reminder takes ten seconds. Put it two or three days before the renewal date so you have time to look at your results, not just to cancel in a panic.
The short version
Open your iPhone's Subscriptions screen, find SALT, cancel, and check the end date, all at least a day before renewal. Deleting the app does not cancel it. After that, the free version stays yours, and you can decide calmly whether Premium ever earned a place in your budget.
