Do not wait. Write the same day, and within a few hours if you have a good line ready. Tinder does not delete a match on a timer, so nothing forces you to hurry, but she has other chats open and a message that arrives promptly beats one held back to look busy. The only delay worth taking is the time to write something specific.

No clock does not mean no deadline

Tinder's help center lists two reasons a match disappears: she unmatched you, or she deleted her account. It names no expiry. That is the trap. Because the match will sit there, men let it sit.

The real deadline is her attention. a dating coach makes the point in his texting videos. A woman on an app is talking to other men, and if you take a long time while others write faster, one of them gets her on a date. A great conversation with you will lose to a good date with somebody else.

How fast people actually answer on Tinder

Figures reported to come from Tinder's own statistics say that 77 percent of users reply to a match within 30 minutes, and 40 percent reply within five minutes. Treat those as the app's reported norm, not a rule you must hit.

What they show is the pace of the place you are in. A man who answers a day later is operating on a different clock from nearly everyone around him. You do not need to match their speed. You do need to stay inside the same day.

Why playing it cool backfires

Men delay on purpose because they have heard that a fast reply looks needy. That advice comes from texting a woman you already know. Right after a match, she does not have an image of you to protect, so a quick, relaxed opener reads as a man who is easy to talk to.

Neediness looks different. It is long messages, several in a row, and visible worry when she is slow. My texting rules cover it: keep messages short, send one or two ideas at a time and avoid double texting. None of them says to wait a day before the first one.

Pick a time she can answer

My rule is to text when she can actually respond. A message that lands while she is at work or asleep gets buried under everything else.

For a first message, that usually means an evening or a relaxed weekend moment. If you matched at three in the morning, do not write at three in the morning. A message that is waiting when she wakes up is fine. You do not need to study her schedule. Avoid the obvious dead hours and otherwise write when you see the match.

When the match is already old

Write anyway. Because Tinder does not expire matches, an old one is still live unless she has cleared it.

Skip the apology and the explanation. Send one fresh line about something she showed, as if you had just seen it. If she has gone cold, you lose nothing, and a good specific line sometimes wakes a match up. If it gets no answer, let it go.

When waiting is the right call

There is one good reason to hold off. If all you have is "hey," a better line sent two hours later beats it. Take a minute to read what she wrote and look for one detail. A reasonable opener might notice her odd choice of place in a picture or tease a claim she made.

If you have a dozen new matches, do not blast all of them in a rush. Do a short session, write good lines to the women you most want to see, and come back to the rest later.

After you send it, and after she answers

Leave it alone. My advice on double texting is to avoid it, because a second message minutes after the first looks needy and draws attention to the silence.

Give her a real chance to answer, which may be hours. If a day or two goes by with nothing, one relaxed follow-up about a different detail is fine. After that, move on. A woman who matched and does not reply has told you something, and there are other matches waiting.

A prompt first message is the easy half. The harder half is keeping the chat moving once she writes back. My texts head toward a plan within four to seven messages, and he mentions meeting early so that the invitation does not arrive from nowhere.

Reply within a reasonable time, keep your lines short and work toward a drink on a specific day. Men who send a good opener and then drift lose as many matches as the men who never wrote at all.
