Turn off Discovery. Sign in to the app or Tinder.com, tap the profile icon, go to Settings, scroll to Enable Discovery and switch the toggle off. Your account stays as it is, but your page is no longer shown as a recommendation to new people, and you cannot view recommendations or Like anyone new. You can still open and chat with the people you have already matched with, and the same steps turn Discovery back on.
The steps
- Sign in to the Tinder app, or to Tinder.com.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to Enable Discovery.
- Turn the toggle off.
To come back, follow the same steps and turn the toggle on again. Nothing is deleted along the way, so there is nothing to rebuild.
What stays and what stops
With Discovery off, your page stops appearing as a recommendation to anyone new. You also lose the other side of that: while you are hidden, you cannot view recommendations or Like anyone new.
What stays is everything you already have. Your account, your photos and your existing matches all remain, and you can still view and chat with those matches. So hiding is not disappearing. It closes the door to new people while your current conversations carry on exactly where they were.
That is the whole point of hiding instead of deleting. If there is any chance you will want to come back, you keep what you built.
Good reasons to go quiet
A few situations suit this well.
You have met someone you want to see again. You are not ready to delete anything, but you do not want new people arriving while you find out where it goes. Hiding lets you give that one person your attention without cutting off the conversations you already had.
You have more conversations than you can keep up with. Stop new ones arriving and deal with the ones in front of you. Start with the women closest to agreeing on a date.
You are busy or away for a while. A heavy month at work, a long trip, exams. Hiding is better than collecting matches who never get a reply.
Tell the people you are talking to
If you are hiding because you will be slow to reply, send a short note in each conversation that matters. Something like: work has taken over for a few weeks, but you still want to take her for that drink once it calms down.
That gives her a reason for the silence and a plan to look forward to. Silence with no explanation looks like lost interest, and most women stop waiting. If a chat was already heading toward a specific evening, pin the evening down before you go quiet.
Use the break
Time away has real value. You come back less irritated, you read people's pages properly again, and your messages lose the flat, tired edge they pick up after too long on the app.
Hiding changes nothing about what women see when you return, though. The photos you come back with are the photos you left with. If slow results are part of why you are stepping away, use the time to fix the thing that decides most of them.
Take new photos while you are off. Ask a friend to shoot you outside in daylight, in two or three outfits and places, and keep only the frames where you look relaxed. Put the best clear shot of your face first. Then rewrite your bio around one specific detail from your life that a woman could picture and ask about.
Rewriting is easier away from the app. You are not checking for new likes every ten minutes, so you can read your page the way a stranger would and cut anything that does not earn its place.
Coming back
When you are ready, go back to Settings, scroll to Enable Discovery and turn it on.
Come back at a steady pace rather than in a rush. A handful of thoughtful likes and replies each day beats a frantic first night followed by another week of silence. Answer anyone who wrote while you were away, and settle into a rhythm you can actually keep.
Give your new photos and bio a fair run before you judge them. A week or two of steady use tells you far more than one busy evening.
The short answer
Hide your Tinder page by turning off Enable Discovery in Settings. New people stop seeing you and you stop seeing them, but your account, your matches and your conversations stay. Use the break to rest, tell the people you are talking to why you are quiet, and come back with photos and a bio that give women a reason to look again.
