Go to Edit Profile, tap the detail you want to hide, such as Religious Beliefs, Height or Drinking, and tap the square next to Visible on Profile. Tap it again any time to show the detail. When you are finished, tap the Back arrow at the top, then tap Done to save your changes.

The steps

  1. Tap your Photo Icon in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the Pencil Icon next to your photo to open Edit Profile.
  3. Scroll to the detail you want and tap it.
  4. Tap the square next to Visible on Profile to hide it or show it.
  5. Tap the Back arrow at the top, then tap Done.

The details are grouped into sections. Identity covers things like pronouns and sexuality. My Virtues holds your job, education, religious beliefs, hometown, languages and dating intentions. My Vitals holds things like your name, age, height, location and family plans. My Vices covers drinking, smoking, marijuana and drugs. You can make the same choice on each one.

Hiding is not the same as changing your answer

The square controls display and nothing else. Your answer stays in place underneath. If you hide your height, Hinge still has the height you gave it. It just does not display it.

So the quickest way to check what a woman sees is to look for yourself. From Edit Profile, tap View at the top of the screen. That preview is your page as other people see it, and it is worth opening every time you change something.

Details worth showing

Most details help you more than they hurt. Each one is a small fact she would otherwise have to guess at or ask about.

Dating intentions is the clearest example. A woman looking for something serious wants to know if you are too, and a woman looking for something casual wants the same. Showing yours saves both of you a wasted evening and helps the right women say yes faster.

Height is the one men agonize over. If you are tall, show it. If you are not, showing it anyway usually beats hiding it. A blank height field invites her to guess, and guesses tend to be unkind. A man who shows an ordinary height with confident photos comes across as someone who is fine with himself, and that matters more than a couple of inches.

Hometown, languages and your job are easy wins. They give her questions she can ask without effort.

Details worth hiding

Some details are private for good reasons, and hiding them is sensible rather than sneaky.

Religion and politics fall here for many men. If your faith or your politics shape your life, show them, because they will matter to the women you want. If they are a quiet private matter, hiding them is fair. It avoids being judged on a single word before she knows anything else about you.

Vices are a judgment call. Drinking socially is ordinary information and most men can show it without a second thought. Details you would rather explain in person, if they come up at all, can stay hidden.

The test for each one is simple. Would you be glad to talk about this on a first date? If yes, show it. If you would rather it came up later, once she knows you, hide it for now.

Do not hide everything

A page with every detail switched off looks like a man with something to hide. She has nothing to picture and nothing to ask about.

The small details also back up the bigger picture. When your job, your hometown and your dating intentions sit next to photos of you living an ordinary good life, the whole page feels real. Strip them all away and even strong photos start to look like they belong to a stranger.

Details frame your photos and prompt answers

On Hinge, your three prompt answers are the written heart of your page, and your photos do most of the work before she reads a word. The details are the frame around both.

That means getting the order of effort right. Spend most of your time on your photos: recent, clear, candid shots of you in real places. Then write prompt answers with a concrete detail she can pick up and run with. The details come last. They take two minutes, and the right mix of shown and hidden makes the rest of your page easier to trust.

If you find you are hiding details because the rest of the page feels thin, that is the real signal. A stronger set of photos and sharper answers will do more for you than any combination of checkboxes.
