Sign in to the Tinder app or Tinder.com, go into Settings, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. You can also use Tinder's Manage My Account tool: sign in with your Tinder login details, tap Delete Account and confirm. Deleting is the permanent option, so a few minutes of checking first is worth it.
The steps in the app or on Tinder.com
Here is the route, in Tinder's order.
- Sign in to the Tinder app or Tinder.com.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom.
- Tap Delete Account and follow the prompts.
The last prompt is your final chance to change your mind, so read it before you tap.
Using the Manage My Account tool
If you would rather not open the app, Tinder also offers a Manage My Account tool. Sign in with your Tinder login information, tap Delete Account, and confirm the deletion.
This route is handy if the app is no longer on your phone, or if the app is misbehaving and you just want the account closed.
Deleting the app is not deleting the account
This is the mix-up worth clearing up first. Dragging Tinder off your home screen removes the app from your phone. It does not remove your account.
The account is only deleted when you use the Delete Account button, in Settings or through Manage My Account. If you uninstalled Tinder months ago and assumed that was the end of it, the account may still be there, with your number and email verified on it. Reinstall the app or use Manage My Account, sign in, and delete it properly.
What you lose when you delete
Deleting closes the account for good, and what lived in it goes with it. Your matches and your conversations go with the account, along with the photos and words you put on it.
So before you delete, go through your chats. If there is a woman you were getting on well with, do not let the account take her with it. a dating coach's approach is to take a woman's number once she is open to meeting, then carry on by text and set the date there. Do that with anyone worth keeping before you tap the button. For the conversations that were going nowhere, one friendly closing line is kinder than vanishing, and it takes seconds.
Save anything you want to keep, too. If a photo in your set only exists on Tinder, make sure the original is still on your phone.
Settle any paid plan first
If you pay for Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum, sort that out before you delete. Do not assume that deleting the account stops the charges. Check where you are billed, whether that is your phone's app store or Tinder itself. Cancel it there, and confirm it is cancelled. Only then delete the account.
Doing it the other way round risks a charge turning up later, attached to an account you can no longer open. The safe order takes two extra minutes.
Delete for the right reason
Plenty of men who search for how to delete Tinder are not finished with dating apps. They are frustrated with their results and hope a fresh account will do better.
That rarely works. A new account with the same photos gets the same response, and the only thing that changed is that every match and conversation is gone. Tinder's rules also allow one account per person. My material warns that some apps, Hinge among them, keep track of men who delete and remake accounts to chase the attention a new account gets. Doing it over and over can end in a ban.
If results were the reason, the account was never the problem. Change what women see instead. In My experience, the photos settle most of the outcome, so lead with a recent, clear photo of your face in good light and cut the two weakest pictures. Give it a few weeks.
If you only want a break
Not every man who searches for this wants the account gone forever. Some just want a few weeks off.
You do not need to delete anything for that. Log out, move the app off your home screen, and leave it alone. My reading of how the apps work is that they show men who are active more often than men who are not. So a quiet account simply fades into the background while you are away, and it is still there, conversations included, when you come back.
Delete when you are genuinely done: you are in a relationship, you have decided to meet women another way, or you simply want your photos and chats gone from Tinder for good. Then use the steps above, and do it knowing exactly what you are giving up.
