No. Hinge removed its Voice and Video Calling feature, so there is no way to call someone from inside the app. Hinge says you can still connect with people through Voice Notes or messaging. If you want to hear her voice or see her face before a first date, the call happens outside Hinge, after the two of you have traded numbers.
What Hinge gives you instead
Voice Notes are the closest thing left. She hears your actual voice, and she gets a sense of how you talk that no typed line can give her. The rest happens in the chat, as typed messages.
A voice note is a handy middle step for a man whose texts read flatter than he sounds. It also helps men whose humor depends on tone. A line that looks sarcastic in text usually sounds warm when she can hear you smiling as you say it. It is still not a call. She cannot answer you in real time, and neither of you gets the quick back and forth that tells you whether an evening together will be fun.
Why a call is still worth having
a dating coach likes a short phone call before a first date, and his reasons have nothing to do with any app. Ten minutes on the phone tells you more about whether you will enjoy her company than days of messages do. If her photos are hard to judge, he may ask to see her on video rather than just talk on the phone.
He also sees it as protecting his own evenings. He would rather learn on a ten-minute call that the two of them do not click than give up a whole night to find out. And a woman who has had a good call with you arrives at the date already looking forward to it, instead of nervous about meeting a stranger.
Get her number first
With no calling inside Hinge, the call depends on her number. My order works. Build some easy back and forth first. Wait until she is clearly enjoying it and you have a loose agreement to get a drink. Then swap numbers.
Make your first text on the new channel obvious. She may be talking to more than one man, so include your name and mention Hinge, keep it light, and carry the plan forward from where the chat left it.
Expect the move to feel like a small restart. My advice is to have a couple of easy, playful messages on text before you ask for anything, so the call request does not land cold as the very first thing she sees from your number.
How to suggest the call
Make it an easy yes rather than a test. A good moment is when her questions start piling up. My move is to offer to answer them properly on a quick call, framed as the simpler option and said with a smile. She gets to hear you, and you both skip a slow round of typing.
Put a time on it. "Free for a quick call tonight around eight?" is far easier to accept than "we should talk sometime."
Voice or video
Start with voice. It is the smaller ask, and most of what you want to know comes through in how she talks. Keep video for when her photos leave you honestly unsure, or when she suggests it herself.
If you do end up on video, make it easy on both of you. Find decent light, somewhere quiet, and hold the phone at eye level rather than pointed up at your chin. You are not auditioning, but there is no reason to look worse than you do in person.
If she would rather not call at all, let it go. coach is clear about this: when a woman would rather just meet, he meets her. A call is a nice extra, never a condition for the date.
Ten minutes, then the date
A short call beats a long one, so aim for ten or fifteen minutes at most. Be relaxed, tease her a little, tell one short story and ask about something from her prompts. Hang up while it is still going well.
Then close the call the way every good call should close, with the date itself. Agree on a place and a day before you say goodbye, and text her the details afterward so it is written down somewhere she will see it.
