One good talk with a woman can teach you something. Twenty talks show you what keeps going wrong.
The first two tries tell you almost nothing
You walk into a bar, see a woman you like, and say, “Hey, how’s your night going?”
She smiles and says, “Good.”
Then you ask, “Do you come here often?”
She says, “Sometimes.”
Now you stand there with your drink in your hand. You can't think of another question. You leave and decide the advice did not work.
That conclusion came too soon.
You had two lines with one woman. You did not give yourself enough time to learn how the skill works. You also had no way to know if she was in a good mood, single, rushed, or open to talking.
The same thing happens with texting. You send a woman a message. She answers with one word. You send another message. She stops texting back. You decide your text was bad.
Maybe it was. Maybe she was at work. Maybe she had three other conversations open. One result cannot tell you much.
Do the same task twenty times. Then look at what keeps happening. You may see that you ask dull questions. You may see that you wait too long to show interest. You may see that women smile and stay near you when you speak with more energy.
The goal is not to force twenty women to like you. The goal is to get enough real practice to spot the part you need to fix.
Twenty reps change what you notice
A man with two attempts watches the woman’s face for signs that he failed. A man with twenty attempts starts watching his own actions.
He notices that he speaks too softly in loud places. He notices that he asks women about work, school, and where they live. He notices that he rarely shares anything about himself.
That gives him a clear job.
For example, instead of asking, “What do you do?” he can say, “You look like you’re having a better night than I am. What brought you here?”
She may laugh. She may answer. She may walk away. Each result gives him more useful information than standing across the room and guessing.
Keep a small note after each talk. Write three facts:
- Where you spoke to her.
- What you said first.
- What happened after two minutes.
Do not write a long report. You only need enough detail to see what you did. After twenty talks, read the notes. You may find that your first line was fine, but you spoke for only thirty seconds before asking for her number. Or you may find that you kept talking after she gave short answers and looked around the room.
You can fix a behavior you can name.
More chances do not mean acting needy
Some men hear “talk to more women” and start chasing every woman in the room. They walk up to women who keep their arms crossed, face the door, and give one-word answers. Then they stay too long.
That is not good practice. It teaches you to ignore clear signs.
A better rep has two parts. You start the talk, and you pay attention to her response.
If she turns her body toward you, asks you a question, and adds details to her answers, stay and talk. If she keeps looking at her phone and gives short replies, say, “Have a good night,” and leave.
You do not need her approval to end a bad talk. You also do not need to make every talk last ten minutes. A short, calm exchange still counts.
You can say, “You seem busy, so I’ll let you get back to your night. I wanted to come say hi.”
Then leave with your shoulders up and your voice steady. That teaches you that rejection is a small event. You said hello. She was not interested. You kept your self-respect.
Use twenty tries to test one change
Do not change five things at once. Pick one behavior and test it for twenty talks.
Maybe you speak too fast. Slow down enough that each sentence is clear. Maybe you keep asking questions. Share one small detail after each answer she gives.
She says, “I work at a hospital.”
You could say, “I’d last one shift there before asking for a desk job. I’m better with numbers than sick people.”
Now she has something to respond to. She can ask about your work, laugh at the comment, or tell you more about hers.
Maybe your issue comes later, when you ask for her number. You may wait until the talk has lost its energy. Try asking while she is smiling and asking you questions.
Say, “I like talking with you. Give me your number, and we’ll continue this another time.”
Then hand her your phone. Do not explain the request for two minutes. Do not ask if she thinks you are attractive. Ask once, then wait.
After twenty tries, compare the results. Did more women give you their numbers? Did the talks feel easier because you had a clear line ready? Did you leave sooner when the interest was not there?
You are looking for a change in your actions and in her response.
The number twenty is about skill, not magic
Twenty does not mean every woman will say yes. It does not mean you will become smooth after counting to twenty. It means you stop judging yourself from one awkward talk in a crowded bar.
A guy I coached once spent weeks waiting for the perfect moment. When he finally spoke to a woman, he tried to sound clever. She gave him a polite smile and went back to her friends.
He then spoke to more women and used plain words. “You caught my eye, so I came to say hello.”
Some women left. Some stayed. One woman talked with him for fifteen minutes and gave him her number. The biggest change was not the line. He stopped trying to perform and started having real talks.
Your results grow when you create more chances, study what you do, and fix one clear problem at a time. Do that twenty times, and the room will look different because you will be taking action instead of guessing.
