Most of the time the profile is held up by one of three things: the face rules, the verification check, or the app's daily release schedule. If your face is clearly visible, you are verified and a few days have passed, the cause is almost always the profile itself. Check the rules first, because those are quick to fix and the app will not approve an account that breaks them.

The face has to be clearly visible

The help center says at least one picture must show your face, and the face has to be clearly visible. A profile with no picture of your face will not be approved. The same goes for an account that does not follow the picture guidelines.

If you finished setup and nothing happened, check this before anything else. A profile that was never approved never reaches anyone, and no setting inside the app will make it appear.

What the app refuses to approve

The guidelines allow only pictures you own the rights to. They ban pornographic images, guns, illegal activities and nudity. They also ban personal information such as phone numbers or email addresses. Graphic images such as hunting pictures are on the list too.

One line in the list catches men who lean on editing tools. The app also bans AI-generated, altered or deepfake images, and says your pictures must reflect your real, unaltered appearance. A man who fills his profile with generated or heavily edited images is breaking a stated rule.

Hunting pictures are the one that surprises men, because the app files them under graphic images, even when the weekend itself was your best one.

The verification check

Verification is a selfie liveness check. It compares your face with the main picture you uploaded, and in most cases it takes only a few minutes.

If you upload someone else's face, the picture can be hidden or removed. If you change your main picture to one that does not look like you, you can lose your verification badge until you verify again. That is the trap for the man who verifies once and then changes his lead picture because he found one he likes better.

Pick the main picture first, verify with it, and change it only for another picture that clearly shows the same face.

Why the first few days look empty

Coffee Meets Bagel sends a batch of potential matches in the Suggested section every day around noon, so a quiet profile may be waiting for the next batch. Subscribers with Bonus Bagels see extra profiles in Suggested until the app runs out, and are told to return the next day to see if there are more.

Do not judge the profile on day one. Judge it after you have lived through a week of noon releases and checked who has actually opened it.

Fixing a profile that is live but quiet

Say the rules are met, the check is passed and a week has gone by. The profile is working in the sense that it exists, and it still produces nothing. That is a different problem.

a dating coach has reviewed many profiles sent in by men, and the most common failure is not a bad profile. It is a boring one. The pictures are fine, the man is good looking enough, and nothing in the set gives a woman a reason to stop. He says she sees a man who looks like every other man in the stack and moves on by instinct.

Two fixes follow from his reviews:

  • Lead with the best clear picture of your face you own, because not showing the face is a problem before anyone reads a line of text.
  • Include one picture that is interesting and easy to comment on. My example is a picture of himself sitting in front of a bed covered in foreign currency. It is not his most attractive picture, but it gets the most comments, because it gives a woman something easy to ask about.

What to put in the written part

a dating coach is hard on lists of hobbies. "I like the gym, trying new restaurants and activities" is something nearly every man writes, so it tells a woman nothing about you in particular.

Write one specific thing. A place you go every Sunday, a project you are in the middle of, a story you could tell in two sentences. Then she has a line she can answer, and a conversation can start from her side instead of yours.

If you still cannot tell what is wrong, send the set to a friend and ask what they would guess you do on a weekend. If the answer is nothing, a woman scrolling at night will arrive at the same guess.
