Because Tinder lets a subscription belong to only one account at a time. The message means the plan you paid for is attached to a different Tinder account from the one you are signed in to. To use it where you are now, Tinder says you delete the old account first, then log in to the account you want to keep and restore the purchase.
What the message means
Tinder ties each subscription to a single Tinder account. The error says your subscription is tied to an existing Tinder account. In plain terms, the payment went through and the plan is live, but it sits on an account that is not the one open in front of you.
It can happen whenever you have more than one Tinder account. Perhaps an old one you stopped using and a newer one you set up later. Perhaps an account you signed in to a different way on a new phone. The plan follows the account it was bought on, not you.
How to move the plan across
Tinder's route has two halves. First you remove the old account, then you restore on the account you keep.
- Sign in to the old account, the one that holds the subscription.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and select Delete Account.
- Log in to the account you want to keep.
- Restore the purchase.
For a plan bought through Apple or Google Play, the restore is in the app's settings under Restore Purchases. For a plan bought on Tinder.com, with PayPal, or with the card option on Android, you enter the Restore Token from your confirmation email on Tinder.com. Tinder says restoring does not start a new transaction, so you will not be charged again.
What you lose when the old account goes
Deleting an account is not a settings change. Tinder's help page says deleting your account permanently deletes your matches, your messages and the other information on it.
Paid extras are lost too. Tinder's Terms of Use say you get no money or other compensation for unused virtual items, such as Boosts and Super Likes, when an account is closed, even when you close it yourself.
So this is a trade. You get the plan on the account you use. You give up everything that lived on the old one.
Before you delete anything
A few checks are worth doing first.
- Confirm which account holds the plan. Sign in to the old account and make sure the subscription is really there.
- Check how long it has left. If the plan runs out in a few days, you may prefer to let it end. You can then decide afresh whether to subscribe on the account you use, without deleting anything.
- Check the platform. Tinder says subscriptions do not transfer between iPhone and Android. If you changed phones as well as accounts, restoring may still fail, and Tinder's advice is to cancel and subscribe again on the new phone.
- Save the people who matter. If a woman on the old account is someone you want to see, get her number before the account goes.
Pick one account and stay with it
Two accounts are more trouble than they are worth. One holds the plan, the other holds the conversations, and neither gets your full attention.
The account that should keep the plan is the one where women already reply to you. a dating coach's view is that paid features multiply what an account already gets, so the plan belongs on the account with something worth multiplying. If the newer account is getting nowhere, moving a plan onto it will not change that. Its first photo and its opening messages need the work first.
Then commit to that one account. Use it on a regular schedule, reply promptly, and let the other one go.
Messages and matches worth saving
Before you delete the old account, go through its conversations one last time.
Any woman who was replying with interest deserves a short message now. Suggest a drink this week, or ask for her number so you can plan something. That way the connection survives the deletion. The rest you can let go without regret, because a match that was going nowhere on the old account was never going to go anywhere on the new one.
Once that is done, delete, restore, and put the plan to work on the account you kept.
