Dating in NYC in your 30s is better than its reputation, but it takes more intent. Many of your friends are coupled up, nights out are rarer, and the women you would like to meet are busy with careers, so you are no longer around single women by default. In exchange, you likely have more money, a better apartment, more to talk about and a clearer idea of what you want. The men who do well at this age stop waiting to bump into someone and start meeting women on purpose, in the coffee shops, parks and bars near where they live and work.
Search "dating in NYC in your 30s" on Reddit and you will find plenty of men calling it exhausting. Most of those complaints come from the same place, and it is fixable.
What changes after 30
a dating coach, who was in his 40s when he covered this topic, says dating "actually doesn't change as much as you might think after 30". What does change is access.
In school and in your 20s, you were around single women your own age all the time. In your 30s, the office is full of married colleagues, your friends host dinners instead of going out, and you spend more evenings at home. You have to go out of your way to be around women you might date, where before it happened on its own.
In New York this shift can feel sudden, because the city's social life in your 20s is so busy. One year you are out every weekend. Two years later, half your group has moved to the suburbs.
What gets better
The same years that cut your access raise your value.
You probably earn more and can live closer to the center of things, which matters a great deal in New York. You know the city, so you can suggest a good bar or a quiet spot for a walk without looking anything up. You have more stories, more opinions and more calm. Women in their late 20s and 30s are often tired of men who are still figuring out their lives, and a man who has his together stands out.
Plausible proximity in a big city
coach uses a phrase for meeting women at this age: "plausible proximity". It means being around the women you are interested in, in a way that feels natural rather than odd.
In New York, that means picking places where a man your age belongs. A coffee shop near your office, a gym or a run club, a cooking class, a wine bar on a weeknight, a bookstore on Sunday. You are not hanging around a college campus or a club full of 21 year olds. You are living your life in places where women you would like to meet are also living theirs, and saying hello when you see one.
The age question
If you are interested in women a few years younger, the age question will come up. My advice is to let her get to know you before age becomes the topic, rather than raising it yourself. When it does come up, treat it as a plain fact, not something to apologize for. A man who is relaxed about his age makes her relaxed about it too.
Decide what you want
In your 30s, being vague costs you more time than it used to. If you want to date casually, say so and act like it. If you want a relationship, spend your time in places and with women where that is likely, and be honest about it early. My point is that a clear goal shapes where you go and what you do, and a man who wants a bit of everything tends to end up with neither.
Where the Bootcamp fits
Most men in their 30s already know they should meet women in person. What they lack is the habit and the comfort. Cold Approach runs its Bootcamp in New York and Miami only. Every training day is two four-hour blocks in the field, with daygame and night game mixed to suit you. Group is three consecutive days with no more than three students per coach, and Private is one, two or three days fully 1-on-1, with longer programs quoted on request. There is no skill floor, and approach anxiety is a specialty.
