A Boost makes your profile more visible to potential matches for one hour. That is all it does. It does not change your photos, your prompts or what a woman thinks when she opens your page. It puts the same page in front of more women for a short time, so it helps a page that already earns likes and does little for one that does not.
What changes and what does not
Visibility is the only thing that moves. Hinge shows your profile to more potential matches while the Boost runs, and that is the full effect.
Three things stay exactly as they were. Your photos, your answers and your first line are the same. The women who see you still decide on the same information they always had. And the other users are not told that you are boosted, so nobody treats you differently because you paid.
That is why the same Boost can be great for one man and wasted on another. If a woman who sees your page tends to like it, more women seeing it means more likes. If she tends to scroll past, more women seeing it means more scrolling past.
How you start one
You start a Boost from the Likes You screen by tapping the Boost button. The button then shows how much time you have left. Hinge also has a Superboost, which keeps you in the spotlight for 24 hours instead of one.
What matters is the mechanics, not the cost, which changes. You choose the moment, and then the clock runs.
How you can tell it worked
Hinge puts a small lightning bolt beside the name of anyone whose like came from your Boost. A second lightning bolt appears if that like becomes a match.
This is the most useful thing about the feature. You do not have to guess. After the hour, you can count how many likes carried a bolt and how many of those became matches. If you got a handful of likes and none became a match, the Boost did its job and your page did not. If you got a decent number and several matches, you found out the page can convert.
The always-on version
HingeX includes a lighter, always-on version called Get Seen by More Daters. Hinge says it does not override other daters' preferences, which means a woman who has filtered out your age or distance still does not see you.
That is a sensible limit, and a useful reminder of what every version of this feature does. It adds exposure among the women who could have liked you anyway.
Where it fits in a real plan
a dating coach says that when he follows his own online method, about half his matches come from boosting the profile and about half from the women he picks himself. The Boost gives him a stream of women who already liked him, and he spends his effort on the ones he wants.
He also says to test the cheap tools instead of arguing about them. Boost one evening, then compare the bolts and matches against a normal evening. It costs little, and you find out quickly.
His view of paying is practical: a paid tool multiplies what you already have. It does not repair a weak profile. If your photos are not working, a Boost shows them to more people who then do not like them.
When to use one
Use it after your page is in shape. A clear, recent lead photo in daylight, a few different days in the rest of the set, and prompts a woman could answer in a line.
Pick an evening when people are likely to be on the app, and be around for the full hour. A like that arrives while you are out does nothing for you until you answer it, and an unanswered like cools quickly.
When the likes come in, be selective and write to the ones you actually want to meet. Aim to suggest a day and a place within a handful of messages. A Boost buys attention, and the date is what you do with it.
What to do if nothing happens
If an hour passes with no bolts, do not buy another straight away. Look at the order of your photos, whether your face is clear in the first one, and whether your prompts give her a question to ask.
Change one thing, wait, and test again. A Boost is a measuring tool as much as a push. It tells you what your page does when plenty of women see it.
