A wingman makes night game easier, especially with groups of two. Going alone is harder at first and teaches faster, because nobody is there to talk to instead of approaching. Both work. The right choice is the one that gets you to walk up to women, so use a wingman for support and go alone when you can.
What a wingman does
a dating coach is clear about this: if you can, bring one. The reason is practical. Women out at night are usually in groups, and groups of two are the hardest situation for a man by himself. If you talk to one woman, her friend is left bored and may object. And it is hard to pull one away from a single friend.
With a wingman, the problem turns into a chance. You take one woman, he takes the other, and both of you can move things forward without leaving anyone out. coach goes as far as saying two intermediate guys together beat one excellent guy alone on a group of two.
A good wingman also helps in other ways:
- He gives you a reason to go out on nights you would skip.
- He can win over the friends while you talk to her.
- He can tell you afterward what he saw.
- Having someone next to you lowers the pressure of the walk over.
What goes wrong with a wingman
A friend can also become an excuse. coach warns about three habits:
- Talking to each other. The two of you stand together and chat all night, which keeps you in the safe zone.
- Waiting for the perfect set. You decline a woman you like because she is in a group of three, not two.
- Protecting him. You pass up a great approach because he might get bored.
His advice: if you see your dream woman in a group of three, go. Your friend can fend for himself for a bit, and he will get his turn.
Also pick the right friend. A wingman who mocks you, gets drunk or competes with you does more harm than good. One who wants you to do well is worth a lot.
What you gain by going alone
coach did night game by himself for his first four to five years before he had a wingman, and he says he learned a lot. Alone, there is no one to hide behind. You cannot say "let's finish this drink first" and talk to your friend instead.
Going alone also takes some pressure off. Nobody is watching you, so a bad set stays private. And it can feel freeing to do exactly what you want.
The downside is that groups of two are harder, and the nights can feel lonely if you let them.
How to choose
- If your problem is starting at all, bring someone who will push you. Agree beforehand that you will each approach a set of women in the first twenty minutes.
- If your problem is leaning on people, go alone sometimes to build your own habits.
- If you are new, a wingman at a quiet venue is a good start.
- If you are experienced, mix both. Different nights teach different skills.
Whichever you choose, set a target before you go, such as three real conversations, and count them. That keeps you honest.
A coach can be your wingman
A friend who also does not know what he is doing cannot tell you what you did wrong. A coach can. In a Cold Approach Bootcamp, the coach is out in the field with you, and Group runs at three students per coach at most, so you learn from other students' sets as well as yours. Private is you and the coach alone.
No friend is required, and no experience either. Men who have never approached are exactly who the coaching is built around.
