Compare how she treats you with how she treats everyone else. A friendly woman is warm to the whole group. A woman who's flirting gives you extra: more attention, more questions, more eye contact, more effort to see you again. No single sign settles it, so look for several together and see if they repeat.

The one test that beats the rest

Watch how she treats other people. If she laughs, touches an arm and asks questions with everyone, she's just warm. Interest shows up as a difference. She treats you differently from her other friends and acquaintances.

Context matters too. If she's equally attentive to everyone in a group, her warmth probably doesn't mean anything. A flirty mood in a private, one-on-one setting is more telling.

What friendly looks like

Someone who's being nice tends to do the minimum. She answers what you ask and doesn't add much.

  • Over text, her replies are short and don't invite a follow-up.
  • In person, she answers your question and waits for the next one.
  • She looks at you about as long as she looks at everyone else.
  • She's relaxed and pleasant, but she doesn't change when you arrive.

What flirting looks like

She makes the conversation longer. If you text "How was your weekend?" and she replies, "Pretty good. Went hiking with my sister, almost got caught in the rain, how was yours?", that's effort. She gives you material and asks one back.

She asks personal questions. "What do you do?" is small talk. "What made you choose that?" is curiosity. Friendly people ask casual questions, and someone flirting asks about your past, your views and your dating life. If she remembers the meeting you mentioned last week and asks how it went, she's paying attention.

She holds eye contact. Lingering eye contact feels more intense than ordinary conversational eye contact.

She touches you. A light touch on the arm or a tap while she talks is a common sign. The difference is whether she does it to you and not to everyone.

She pairs compliments with body language. A compliment alone is weak. A compliment while she leans in, moves closer or faces you openly is stronger. In a group, her body tends to turn toward you, and her feet point your way.

She teases you. Playful teasing, witty banter and trying to make you laugh are common signs.

She finds reasons to see you again. Watch for "we." "You'd probably like that ramen spot near my place." "We should check out that place sometime." She's trying to pull you into her life without forcing it.

She makes it easy for you to lead. If you say, "Want to grab a drink Thursday?" and she replies, "Thursday's rough, but Friday works," she didn't just say no to the plan. She built a new one. That's a green light.

When a sign can mean something else

Every one of these has another explanation. Staring without looking away, touching again and again and exaggerated praise can come from nerves or discomfort, not interest. Cultures and personalities differ too. What one woman means as an invitation, another means as ordinary politeness.

That's why one sign means almost nothing. Two signs can still be ambiguous. When you get a cluster, you're probably not imagining it: she keeps the conversation going, asks about your life, faces you, laughs easily and makes it simple to meet again.

How to find out without risking much

Don't spend weeks in detective mode. Make a small, specific move and let her response do the work.

  1. Suggest one concrete plan: "Want to grab a drink Thursday?"
  2. If she's flirting, she says yes or offers another time herself.
  3. If she's just friendly, she stays warm but vague: "Yeah, we should hang out sometime," with no day attached.

A vague yes that never turns into a day tells you what you needed to know. Don't push it. A woman who's interested doesn't make you solve a puzzle.
