Leave while the conversation is still going well, say plainly that you enjoyed talking to her, and exchange numbers or agree on a next step before you walk away. A goodbye with a plan attached does not lose her. A goodbye with nothing attached, or one that drags on until the energy dies, is how men lose a woman they had just won. When you approach women in person, the exit is part of the approach.
Why men lose her at the goodbye
There are two common ways to fumble a good conversation. One is leaving with no way to reach her, which turns a nice moment into a story you tell yourself. The other is staying too long, so the interest she had peaks and fades while you keep talking.
Both come from the same place: not knowing how to end it. Men who are afraid of the awkward part of leaving either bolt or stall.
End on a high point
Pick a moment when she has just laughed or just told you something she cares about, and leave there. The last thing she remembers about you is how the conversation felt at its best.
If you wait until there is a gap, the last memory is silence. A short, confident ending beats an exhausting full one.
Say what you actually felt
You do not need a line. Say something true and short: "I'm glad I came over. I'd like to keep talking, but I don't want to hold you up." Then move to the ask.
a dating coach's point about the close is that most of the work is done before it: the better the interaction, the easier the close. He also notes that a number-only close after a very good set can be a letdown. When the chemistry is strong, consider asking for an instant date, "oh how about we just go to this bar right now," rather than stopping at a number.
Ask for the number or the plan before you go
Say it with the same tone as the rest of the conversation. "Give me your number and I'll text you about getting a drink this week." Hand her your phone, or take hers.
Do not ask "can I get your number?" with a lifted voice and a pause, as if you expect a no. Say it as a statement with a smile.
If she says no or hesitates, accept it gracefully and still leave warmly.
Name the next contact
Before you leave, say how the next contact will happen. "I'll text you tonight so you have my name." That keeps your text from arriving as a surprise from a stranger. Then do it, soon, and keep it light. For what to send, see what to text after you cold approach a girl.
Do not apologize on the way out
Men often wrap a good goodbye in a bad one: "Sorry for bothering you, I know you're busy, sorry." That undoes the confidence you just showed. A single "nice to meet you" with eye contact and a smile is enough.
Walk away at a normal pace. Do not look back three times. Hold your head up until you are out of sight, because she may still be watching.
Practice the exit as much as the opener
Most men rehearse the first sentence and improvise the last one. A coach who watches you leave a conversation can tell you whether you ended too soon, too late or too nervously, and that feedback is hard to get any other way.
At a Cold Approach Bootcamp, you get feedback on every set, including the ending. It runs in Miami and New York. Group is three consecutive days at three students per coach, and Private is one, two or three days one-on-one. Each day is two four-hour blocks of live coaching, and you leave with a written practice plan covering what is working and where to focus when you go out again. There is no skill floor.
