Wait for a good moment, say plainly that you want to see her again, and hand her your phone so she can type her number in. "I like talking to you. Put your number in and I will plan something fun." Say it calmly, as an ordinary next step, and then stop talking and let her answer.

"Closing a set" just means ending the conversation with something concrete: her number, her Instagram, or a plan to move to another place.

Close when the talk is working

You do not need a perfect conversation. You need one where she is giving back. Signs it is time:

  • She has laughed, teased you or told you something real.
  • She asks you questions, so the conversation goes both ways.
  • She is not checking her phone or scanning the room.
  • You have been talking for a few minutes, long enough to have something to refer to later.

If the talk has gone flat, do not rush to the number as a rescue. A number asked for after two flat lines feels like a sales pitch, and she has no reason to say yes. Make the conversation a bit better first, then close.

The words to use

Keep the ask short and specific:

  • "I am glad I came over. Give me your number and I will take you somewhere better than this."
  • "You are fun. Put your number in my phone."
  • "I want to continue this when it is not this loud. What is your number?"

Do not apologize, and do not wrap it in a joke that lets her laugh it off. Say it as a reasonable thing to do, because it is.

Hand her your phone

Offering your phone is smoother than asking her to recite digits over loud music. She types her name and number, and you call or text her right then so you know the number works and she has yours. If she prefers Instagram, take that. a dating coach's view is that a number or an Instagram are both fine outcomes. What matters is that you leave with a way to reach her.

Deal with her friends first

If she is with a group, the number gets much easier when her friends like you. coach learned this early in his own night game: he would do well with a woman, then her friends dragged her away because he had ignored them entirely.

So say hello to the friends early and be easy to be around. Keep the vibe with them friendly and safe. Keep the vibe with her a bit more charged. Close away from the group if you can, at the bar or on the way to the bathroom, not in front of everyone.

Think about the time of night

A number taken early is weaker, because she keeps partying, meets other people, and by the end of the night you are not the most recent memory. My point is that a woman who stays out all night has more chances to forget the number or to change her mind. If you really like her, you can stay longer and make it stronger, or take the number and text her the next day while it is fresh.

Do not push to take her home from a woman who is clearly with a tight group that is leaving. Take the number, thank her and move on.

What to do right after

Text her within a day. Keep it short and refer to something from the conversation: "It was fun meeting you at the bar. The pizza debate needs a ruling. Are you free Thursday?" Aim for a plan, not a long chat.

If she says no

Say, "No problem, it was good to meet you," and go. A calm exit makes you look good to her and to her friends, and it keeps your own night from turning into a bad mood. One no does not end your night. Do the next set.

Practice the ask in person

Asking for a number gets easier the more you do it. At a Cold Approach Bootcamp, the curriculum covers exchanging numbers or Instagram, texting toward a date, and recognizing when an immediate date makes sense. You do it in real sets in Miami or New York, with your coach next to you and feedback after each one.
