Badoo needs at least 2 photos and lets you upload up to 6 photos or videos, and it recommends 4 to 6. Photos can be JPG or PNG files of up to 128 MB, ideally 1024 x 1024 pixels, and each one carries a small Badoo watermark. One feature changes how you should choose them: Smart Photo automatically makes your best-performing photo your first one, and there is no way to opt out.
The rules in one place
- Minimum: 2 photos.
- Maximum: 6 photos or videos in total.
- Recommended: 4 to 6.
- File types: JPG or PNG.
- File size: up to 128 MB.
- Ideal size: 1024 x 1024 pixels.
- Every photo carries a small Badoo watermark.
- Smart Photo picks your first photo for you.
The limits are generous. Very few men will ever hit the size cap, and the watermark is small. The rule that really shapes your set is the last one.
What Smart Photo does to your set
On most apps you choose the photo that leads. On Badoo, the app does. Smart Photo looks at how your photos perform and moves the best one to the front, and you cannot switch that off.
That sounds like a convenience, and partly it is. It also takes away a safety net. Plenty of men tuck a weaker photo at the back, trusting the lead photo to do most of the work. On Badoo you do not get to decide what leads. Every photo you upload has to be one you would be happy for her to see first.
How many to actually use
Badoo's suggestion of 4 to 6 is sensible, but treat it as a ceiling you earn, not a number you have to hit.
a dating coach's rule is that she will judge you on your worst photo, because she assumes the worst one is what you really look like. His practical advice follows straight from that. If you have three good photos and one mediocre one, drop the mediocre one. When you are unsure about a photo, leave it out.
So four strong photos beat six where two are filler. If you only have three you are proud of, use three for now and go and take more.
What each photo has to say
My test is that every photo should tell her something specific and attractive about you. If you cannot explain what a photo is doing for you, it probably should not be there.
A useful set covers different ground:
- A clear shot of your face in good light, where you are easy to recognize.
- One that shows your build and how you dress.
- One or two that show your life: somewhere you actually go, something you actually do.
- One with other people, if you have one where she can find you at a glance. coach warns against crowd shots where you blend in.
Different outfits and different places across the set make it read as a life rather than one afternoon.
Videos take a slot too
Badoo's limit covers photos and videos together, so a video uses one of your six places. Judge it the way you would judge a photo.
A short clip that shows you relaxed and easy to be around can earn its spot. A shaky, dim one costs you a slot and drags the rest of the set down with it.
Why a good bio cannot rescue a weak photo
coach makes this point about the apps in general. A man may have a great bio and a great personality. If his first photo puts her off, she moves on before she reads any of it, and all that good writing goes to waste.
On Badoo, with Smart Photo choosing the lead, the same logic covers every photo you upload. Get the photos right first. The words matter once she is interested enough to read them.
Let Smart Photo tell you something
There is a useful side to having no say. Whichever photo Badoo moves to the front is, by its own measure, the one doing best. That is free information.
My approach to any dating profile is to test: swap a photo, watch what changes, keep what works. Here Badoo runs part of that test for you. If it keeps choosing the same photo, look at what that one has that the others lack. It might be the light, the setting or your expression. Take more photos like it.
If you do not have enough good photos to fill a set, a friend with a phone and an hour of daylight is the simplest fix.
