Thirty seconds. Hinge told TechCrunch that Voice Prompts let users answer a prompt through a 30-second voice recording. It is one of your prompt answers, so it lives on your profile where every woman who opens your page can play it. You do not have to use all thirty seconds, and most men are better off with fewer.
Where that number comes from
The 30-second figure comes from Hinge's own statement to TechCrunch about the feature. App limits can change, so treat the number as a guide and check what the recording screen allows when you make yours.
What matters more is how you use whatever time you get.
A voice prompt is not a Voice Note
These two get mixed up, and they are different things.
A Voice Prompt is a prompt answer on a Hinge profile. Anyone who views your page can hear it. A Voice Note is something you send in chat after you match, to one woman, inside a conversation.
So when you ask when to do a voice prompt, you are asking about your profile. You record it once, add it to the page, and it works for you while you are not on the app. A Voice Note is a different tool for a different moment.
How to use the thirty seconds
Most men either say too little or read too much.
Pick a prompt you could answer out loud to someone at a bar. Choose a question where you have a real story or an opinion, not one where you would have to invent something. Then talk to one woman, not to an audience.
Aim well short of the limit. A clean fifteen to twenty seconds, with a clear beginning and end, sounds confident. A recording that runs right up to the cutoff often ends mid-sentence, which sounds like a man who did not know when to stop.
Do not record a script. A line you wrote out and read aloud sounds read, and she will hear it in the first second. Say it twice in your head, then say it out loud with a smile.
When to record one
Record it when you have time and quiet. A noisy street, a car or a room with a television on all show up in the audio, and a stiff first take is not worth keeping.
Give yourself a few tries, then stop. By take eight you are performing, and you sound it.
If you still hate how you sound after a few takes, leave it off. A profile without a voice prompt beats one with a bad one. Put the energy into your photos and your written prompt answers instead.
How often to change it
We found no limit from Hinge on how many times you can change it. So treat it as you would any other prompt answer. Leave it alone while it is working, and swap it when it stops getting a reaction.
If you want to test one, give it a fair stretch, a week or two of normal use, and compare how many likes you got before and after. Change only the voice prompt, so you know where any difference came from.
When a voice prompt helps
It helps most when the rest of your profile is already solid. A clear lead photo, a few real-life shots and good written answers give her a reason to press play. The voice then adds the one thing a photo cannot, which is how you sound.
It helps a quiet man too. A warm, relaxed recording can do more than a clever line, because it lets her hear that you are easy to talk to.
It does not rescue a weak page. If your lead photo is poor, fix that first.
A word on removals
Hinge's help center lists Voice Prompts among the profile content types it can remove for breaking its guidelines, and a dater can appeal for review in the app. So keep it clean: nothing hostile, nothing you would not say to a woman's face.
