Raya is built for the iPhone, and its App Store listing is labeled "Only for iPhone." It does not mention a separate iPad version. Apple's data for the listing does name several iPad models among the devices it supports. So an iPad may be able to run it. Raya does not promise a tablet experience.

What the listing says

The listing states that Raya requires iOS 17.0 or later. It also states that it requires visionOS 1.0 or later for Apple Vision.

Nothing in the listing describes a Mac version or a separate iPad version. The label says iPhone, and the requirements read as an iPhone app that also runs in Apple's headset software.

Why the data and the label disagree

Apple's data for the listing lists several iPad models as supported devices, even though the page is labeled for iPhone. The simple reading is that Apple lets some iPads run iPhone apps, so the two do not conflict.

That is an inference, not something Raya has said. If you own an iPad and no iPhone, test the download on your own device and see what the store offers you. Do not buy anything on the strength of our reading of a data file.

Why the phone is the right place for it anyway

Raya is a phone app in its design. Its listing is labeled for iPhone, and its Maps feature is about people near you. You are going to use it standing in a line, on a train, or on a sofa at ten at night, and you are not going to use it propped up on a desk with a tablet.

A dating app you check in short bursts is better on the device you always have with you. A man who sees a woman's message an hour after she sent it replies while she is still interested. A man who has to find his tablet replies tomorrow.

The membership comes first

Raya is by application only. Accepted members choose a membership of one, six or twelve months. A device, however good, does not matter until you are accepted.

So the order is simple. Apply first. If you get in, work out which device you will use. If you are only asking about the iPad because you hope it will help you get accepted, it will not. The people who decide read your application, not what you hold in your hand.

What decides whether Raya works for you

For a man who gets in, the device is the smallest part of the result. Three things matter far more.

The first is your photos. Clear, recent pictures of your face and your life, taken in daylight, beat a perfect setup on any screen.

The second is what you write. A short, honest description of what you do and what you like gives a woman something to answer.

The third is how you start a conversation. Pick one specific thing from her page, say something about it, and give her an easy question. A specific opener gives her something real to answer.

If you own both

A man with an iPhone and an iPad should treat the iPad as a place to prepare, not to use. Photos are easier to sort on a larger screen. So is rereading your own description, and so is looking over the Instagram account Raya will see, because the application asks for your Instagram username.

Do that work on the tablet if you like, then do the real thing on the phone. The phone is the device that matches the label on the listing, and it is the one Raya describes.

If you have only an iPad

If you do not own an iPhone, decide before you apply whether you will get one. A tablet that happens to run the app is a fragile way to use a dating app you are paying for, since you will check it less often and miss messages.

If you do not want to buy a phone for Raya, put your effort into an app that works on whatever you already carry. A man who does the basics well on two ordinary apps will usually get more dates than a man waiting on a private one.
